Steelhouse Opportunity

The Nussbaum Center has a unique opportunity to begin the development of the Steelhouse™ into a multi-tenant destination space the whole community can enjoy.

The 200,000 sq. ft. Steelhouse was donated to the Nussbaum Center in December of 2013. Since that time we have held community meetings as well as met with many civic and city leaders to turn the facility into a destination we can all be proud of.

Think of Pike Place Market, Reading Terminal Market, Charleston City Market or closer to home, the West End Mill Works in Winston Salem. A place where local artists, bakers, distillers, brewers, roasters, chefs and entrepreneurs can make their dreams of expanding their business a reality. This could be the perfect expansion of what the Nussbaum Center has done for the last 28 years.

Several dozen businesses have looked at the Steelhouse for their future home and several hundred have come to the Nussbaum Center requesting business assistance. We are in a unique position, in that one is ready to invest $600,000 in their business and locate at the Steelhouse™.

Based on preliminary conversations with the City and construction estimates, the Nussbaum Center will need to invest roughly $150,000 to make the space suitable for the tenants use. The Nussbaum Center is not in a financial position to make this investment, nor borrow these funds under conventional terms.

The Nussbaum Center is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit.

Your contribution to the Steelhouse Project is an investment in the continued economic development of Greensboro.
