Who We Are

Founded in 1987 in Revolution Mill, formerly a Cone Mills factory building, The Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship, Inc. is a private non-profit corporation. Our mission is to attract, advise and house start-up and early stage growth entrepreneurs., To accomplish this, the NCFE operates a business incubator located in the heart of Greensboro. The Center provides modestly priced office and light manufacturing space along with shared support services such as our EASE Program, business counseling, copier, fax, mail boxes, and data entry.

PRESIDENT, SAM FUNCHESS

funchess-1 1Mr. Funchess is President and CEO of the Nussbaum Center. Prior to this position, he held numerous positions on the Nussbaum Center Board of Directors, including Vice Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the strategic planning committee, as well as treasurer. Mr. Funchess brings a vast wealth of experience, as he is also Chairman and CEO of The Fun Technologies Group of Companies. Included in the Fun Technologies Group of companies are Software Publishers, a Compact Disc (CD) and Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) manufacturing company that Mr. Funchess founded in 2001; and Rule Radio, an internet radio and digital distribution company that Mr. Funchess founded in 2004. Both Companies are located in Greensboro, NC. Prior employment includes Financial Analyst for Geneva Associates, a private equity fund; and a Commercial Loan Officer for SouthTrust Bank, a full-service commercial bank. A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Mr. Funchess has lived in the Triad area for over 15 years. Mr. Funchess holds Bachelor of Administrative Science degrees in Accounting and Management from Guilford College. He has been active in the Goal Area Council of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, is a member of the 2007 class of Leadership Greensboro in addition to numerous other professional, civic and charitable organizations. He and his wife, Barbara, reside in Guilford County, North Carolina with their three children, Chris, Zach, and Sam Jr. His interests include family, golf, mountain biking, scuba-diving and music.


Vice President, Clay Howard

Clay Howard is the Vice President of the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship. The responsibilities of this job include all accounting functions of the incubator, Marketing and PR for the Center and management of the EASE program interns. Mr. Howard also brings an extensive background in graphic design and marketing, and utilizes this skill set to assist entrepreneurs throughout the Triad with brand identity projects, including logo, packaging and additional design projects. Clay has authored two well-received children's books and is also a singer/songwriter who performs throughout the Triad.
